Mizuyo Komiya Artist’s Profile: Born into the head of Matu-no-mi Koto Music School, Mizuyo was trained at an early age by her mother, Keiko Nosaka to play the 20 chord Koto. After graduating from high school, she left to study at Berklee College of Music in the U.S. She continued her studies at New England Conservatory on the Contemporary Improvisation Major. Mizuyo studied contemporary music under the guidance of Ran Blake and Hankus Netsky, covering such areas as folk music and improvisational performance. After returning to Japan, she has been conducting performances on a regular basis as well as working on her music to blend it with many other kinds of music genres, freeing herself from boundaries set by the traditional methods of performance.
